NO HOSPITALITY SHALL GO UNREWARDED Jesus tells us today: "Whoever loves father or mother... son or daughter (and earthly possessions) more than me is not worthy of me" [ Matt. 10:37 ]. "Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it" [ Matt. 10:38 ]. This words of Jesus should not be taken literally. Jesus is condemning undue attachment to earthly possessions. Any family ties or addiction to passing things of this world should be severed if you are hoping for eternal life. What then do we do with our possessions? The answer is contained in the 1st reading. The woman of Shunem, whenever Elisha passed, she invited him to dine with her. For the sake of the mission of Elisha and having observed him as holy man, the family decided to give him a room for rest in addition. The woman did not mind to hoard the goods God gave them.
