Wisdom In Choosing a Spouse!
Marriage is God's idea and His invention so He alone has the instructions on which marriage can run successfully.
The first and most important thing we should do in choosing a spouse is to pray, and pray and then pray. The place of the "spiritual" cannot be overemphasized.
But that we are spiritual and pray a lot doesn't mean we should shut down our brain and common sense. God expects us to be wise even as He leads us, He expects us to use our common sense in the process of picking a spouse. God will lead us but we will make the choice, so be wise please. For those who believe in seeing only ONE particular person in a vision or dream as their spouse, I wish you God's best!
Besides several qualities and characters that are needed in marriage, there are two strong pillars upon which marriage stands: Love and Submission
Husbands are to love their wives unconditionally and wives are to submit to their husbands unconditionally. No condition was given in which the husband shouldn't love his wife and no condition was given in which the Wife shouldn't submit to her husband.
But the truth is, it is easier to love a good, wise, intelligent, humble and respectful wife than a stubborn, opinionated, proud, disrespectful and unteachable wife. If you marry a good woman, you must love her, if you marry a bad woman, you must still love her... No exception!
It is true that it is easier to submit to a godly, wise, knowledgeable, hardworking, humble and caring husband than to submit to a rude, lazy, excessively egoistic, proud and oppressive man. If you marry a good man, you must submit and if you marry a bad man, you must still submit. No exception!
When you say you are marrying a wife, you are saying "I am promising to love her in all ways" and when you say are marrying a husband, you are saying "I am bringing myself under the authority of my husband in all things". This means you should be wise to choose who you can love with the least difficulty and choose who you can submit to with the least difficulty.
God gives us several people from whom we can choose our spouse in the Lord. They all have different attributes and for the matured people, God expects that you already know the attributes that can complement and suit your person and purpose, so He expects you to choose base on that. God gives us a lot of time to make this decision so that we do it once and do it right.
After making your choice, God will hold you accountable for that choice and hold you accountable for your obligations of love/submission to that spouse, no excuse will be valid for defaulting.
So why not use the wisdom and common sense God has given you to reduce the odds to the barest minimum so that it will be easier for you to perform your roles in marriage? Why not use your common sense to cut down most of the possible odds and choose someone that you can love and submit to with little or no difficulty?
The man is proud, rude and very opinionated, he is domineering and doesn't take advise but he spends on you and meet all your needs, he has a good body and has a fat bank account. God expects you to use your common sense here. If you marry him because of the money and good body, God won't spare you for not submitting due to his other negative qualities, look well before you leap.
The lady is very beautiful with fine face, good breast, curvy shape, well rounded hips and has sexy legs but she is rude, very stubborn, domineering, unteachable and lacks good manners. God expects you to be wise and use your common sense, if you marry her because of her sweet body and then refused to lover her because of her negative qualities, God won't spare you. Look before you leap.
Define what you want, consider yourself critically, note your weakness and strength, set your standards and marry someone that will make it easier for you to be a loving husband/submissive wife.
Marriage is beautiful, it is so beautiful when it is done in God's way and wisdom.
God bless your relationships!
